Materials Needed:
- Three small glasses
- Three different types of pure fruit juice
- Large glass of water
- Bandanna
Have a friend blindfold you with a scarf.
1.) Orange juice
2.) Apple juice
3.) Apple rasberry
Without holding your nose taste each juice. It is easy
to recongnize the flavors. (Apple rasberry)
(Orange juice)
(Apple)
After tasting each juice, wash your mouth out with a
glass of water.
Hold your nose and taste the juices again!
(Apple)
(Orange juice)
(Apple rasberry)
It is more difficult to identify the juices while holdingyour nose! Cassie thought so! The juices now
have similar flavors.

ReplyDeleteGreat way to show that there is a relationship between your nose and mouth. This is why a lot of people hold their nose when they take their medicine!

ReplyDeleteMaybe you could review how a nose and your tounge works before going over the experiment. You could talk about why they work together and what we would do if they did not work together.
ReplyDeleteThen follow up with the experiment. Then explain what the water and blindfold has to do with the experiment!
This experiment is so neat. It is weird though because I am actually on a diet and I have to drink this nasty protein stuff and the only way I can drink it is to hold my nose and just drink. Then, I have to rinse my mouth out! It's gross. I never had thought about using my experience in a way to teach a lesson to a group of students. This is neat.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you ladies explained your presentation and how you provided background information about taste and smell before the experiment to help the class understand the out come. It was also nice when you explained why you must use the water before you hold your nose. Great job!

ReplyDeleteGreat job!! Can you just place a drop of juice on various places on your tongue and better identify it? (rather than drinking it)
